I woke up this morning and immediately checked the LIFE site for new pics. I'm totally hooked on this site. Nothing ever supplanted my morning coffee before this site went live but now I get my jolt from silver-nitrate. I was looking at LIFE's guest editor section when I saw this photo
I was amazed by the composition of this photo. The caption reads: "Little Leaguers, Manchester, N.H., 1954Photo: Yale Joel./Time & Life Pictures/Getty Images
May 01, 1954"
What an incredible photo. It captures the excitement of the group's anticipation of their new uniforms. But, more importantly it captures the energy and spirit of children ready to take on their new world. The center child grabs your attention. He appears like a coiled spring ready to displace its stored energy. But, it is the expressions of the other children that allow you to explore their emotions; some excited, some bored, some nervous, others dispassionate. This photo reminds me of another great photo on LIFE.com. This might be the all time greatest image on LIFE.com. Taken by legendary Staff Photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt, Paris Puppet Theater is an incredible collection of human emotion expressed to the camera. And, this one you can buy also!
